There are hopes the likes of Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson will sit down for an on-camera chat to commemorate 20 years since the first Harry Potter film was released during an event at Warner Brothers Studio Tour London this month

The cast of the Harry Potter film franchise are rumoured to be planning a ‘Friends-style’ reunion show – twenty years after the first film was released.

Original stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson – who played Haryy Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger in all eight Potter films – could be stay together for a catch up and walk down memory lane.

According to sources, Warner Brothers – who also made the sitcom Friends – are keen to replicate the success of the reunion show which brought back stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer for interviews years after the end of the hit comedy.

An event is being planned this month at Warner Brothers Studio Tour London that will include major stars of the Harry Potter series with hopes they can be interviewed on camera for a playful look back documentary.

A source told The Sun on Sunday: “The proposed show is being shrouded in secrecy as franchise bosses want to get talent locked in first.

A reunion could be awkward if JK Rowling – the original author of the books the films were based on – is also involved as the cast sided against her and her views on women’s rights.

The author took issue with legal proposals in Scotland, where she lives, that people should be legally entitled to self determine their gender without need for medical approval.

JK argued this could erode women’s rights – with many transgender activists hitting out at the star to brand her a Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist (TERF).

Reacting to a string of tweets issued by JK, Harry Potter himself, Daniel, issued a lengthy statement in which he defended the trans community.

He wrote: “Transgender women are women. Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo or I.

“According to The Trevor Project, 78% of transgender and nonbinary youth reported being the subject of discrimination due to their gender identity.

“It’s clear that we need to do more to support transgender and nonbinary people, not invalidate their identities, and not cause further harm.”

The news of a reunion special comes just a day after original Harry Potter director Chris Columbus declared he would love to reunite the original cast for a sequel movie.

The 63-year-old filmmaker directed the first two Potter films – The Philospher’s Stone and The Chamber of Secrets – and would relish the chance to adapt stage sequel The Cursed Child for the big screen.
