Before Emma Watson portrayed Hermione Granger in all eight Harry Potter movies, she was just another fan. At age seven, the actor’s father used to read her the bestselling books on long car rides. So, when she had the opportunity to audition for the film adaptations, she jumped at the opportunity. Despite not having any professional acting credits, Watson’s passion for performance and for Hermione Granger made her confident she could land the role.

“Playing Hermione just came so naturally; I had a real affinity for her, ” Watson shared in an interview with Marie Claire. “I felt like I knew exactly who she was. I’m a perfectionist, so my bossiness definitely comes out.”

Watson, who firmly believes that one should work hard to earn the things that one wants, opened up about her anxiety before the audition while speaking with GQ and expressed how adamant she was about the role. The actress explained her process for capturing the perfect audition clip by stating,

 “I worked hard to get Hermione, and my mum has a video I did for the first audition and she has me doing the same takeover and over, like 27 times from nine in the morning until five in the afternoon and I was just relentless. I wasn’t sure I wanted to act, but I was sure I wanted this part.”
