Emma Watson returned to the Oscars event circuit for the first time in five years last night, and the actress had not just one but three dresses for the evening. After being photographed at Elton John's Oscars watch party in a sheer black dress, Watson revealed the princess-like Fendi lace gown she wore to another event with Pasquale Bruni jewelry.

But the lace dress by far was the star garment on Watson's Instagram Stories. And for good reason; it's a work of art:

Watson has kept a remarkably low profile, with the Oscars being her most public outing in a long time. Watson did speak candidly to

“I was like, ‘Why does everyone make such a big fuss about turning 30?” she said of when she was in her late 20s. “This is not a big deal…’ Cut to 29, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I feel so stressed and anxious. And I realize it’s because there is suddenly this bloody influx of subliminal messaging around. If you have not built a home, if you do not have a husband, if you do not have a baby, and you are turning 30, and you’re not in some incredibly secure, stable place in your career, or you’re still figuring things out… there’s just this incredible amount of anxiety.”

She added then that while she was dating, albeit not anyone seriously, she was happy being unmarried. “I never believed the whole ‘I’m happy single’ spiel, ” she said. “I was like, ‘This is totally spiel.’ It took me a long time, but I’m very happy [being single]. I call it being self-partnered.”

It's the first time she's been spotted at an Oscars related event since attending the Vanity Fair after party in 2018, and fans are SO happy she's back in the award show ceremony circuit.

Watson has kept a very low profile in recent months with the exception of releasing her Prada commercial last summer, which she directed. As she explained to

“I was very specific that, if I’m going to do this, I want to tell a story and I want to be a real character who is going to do something, ” she said. “To tell my own story and frame myself, to get to be in charge of my own image felt genuinely exciting.”

Watson said she had long had an interest in directing. “I wanted to be a director since I was seven years old, ” she said. “I don’t think I thought it was a possibility. No one offered me the directing job. I had to give myself permission. I had to ask. I love telling stories. I think I’m good at it. I think I have a vision. I’m not waiting for anyone’s permission any more.”

She continued, As a director, I wanted to find a piece of material that I wasn’t going to get bored of, that I felt good about living inside of and exploring every single day, intensively.”

She added that “having been in so many photoshoots and fashion campaigns, and really having spent my life been captured by other people; to tell my own story and frame myself, to get to be in charge of my own image felt genuinely exciting.
