Though Disney fans won't get their first look at the new live-action Beauty and the Beast until March 17, the cast and other Hollywood A-listers attended the Los Angeles premiere at the famous El Capitan theater Thursday night. From Emma Watson toPaige O'Hara (the original actress who voiced Belle) the red carpet was full of nostalgia and excitement over the new remake.

Emma Watson, who's been wearing only recycled and eco-friendly outfits for the Beauty and the Beast press tour, was stunning in a black jumpsuit with an accented gold rose.

Toni Braxton attended the premiere as well, wearing a shimmering sheath gown. She played Belle in the Broadway version of Beauty and the Beast.

John Legend recorded an updated version of the song, along with Ariana Grande. He walked the red carpet with his wife Chrissy Teigen.

The intimidating specimen Gaston will be played by Luke Evans, who walked the red carpet in a classy grey suit with a unique tie.

Evans and Gad opened the evening with a rendition of Be Our Guest (though neither of their characters perform that song in the movie).

Alan Menken is the genius behind the original Beauty and the Beast lyrics and music. He went simple with an all black suit.

The 26-year-old actress beamed as she arrived at the event in a dress fit for a princess - complete with long flowing train that perfect caught in the wind and blew behind her.

She was joined on the carpet by a host of her co-stars  - including Sir Ian McKellan, Emma Thompson and her two dashing leading men, Dan Stevens and Luke Evans.

Dan, who takes on the role of the Beast, made quite the handsome Prince as he posed with Emma on the carpet – with the pair sharing a joke as they had their pictures taken.

Meanwhile Luke, who plays the vain and stubborn villain Gaston, looked charming in a tailor made suit complete in the red and brown colours the character has become known for.

Rather than a premiere, the film’s launch was celebrated with a cast dinner and screening at Spencer House in London on Thursday evening.

As a dedicated feminist and activist, Emma was forced to address critique of the storyline of the classic fairy tale – after some accused it of perpetuating a story of someone with Stockholm Syndrome.

Stockholm Syndrome is a phenomena in which kidnap victims fall for and develop a kinship with their captors, and in some cases leaves them wanting to stay with them.

A popular theory surrounding the story is that this is what Belle begins to suffer from as her feelings towards the Beast deepen.

She added: “She has none of the characteristics of someone with Stockholm syndrome because she keeps her independence; she keeps that freedom of thought.

“I also think there is a very intentional switch where, in my mind, Belle decides to stay. She’s giving him hell. There is no sense of ‘I need to kill this guy with kindness.’ Or any sense that she deserves this. In fact, she gives as good as she gets. He bangs on the door, she bangs back.”

The star added that she found their developing friendship before romance blossoms as “beautiful”, and how their time together allows them to “see the worst in each other and bring out the best”.
