Emma Watson Accent Reddit

CANNES, France — Emma Watson couldn't be further from Hermione Granger in The Bling Ring. She plays a celebrity-obsessed house burglar in Sofia Coppola's new film.

I'm not trying to run away from it, Watson said at a Cannes Film Festival news conference on Thursday where The Bling Ring premiered. I'm very proud of the work that I did. I'm just really enjoying having the chance to transform into new roles.

And transform she does in the crime tale, based on true events, of troubled teens who target the likes of Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, break into celebrity homes and steal their precious swag with amazing ease.

For Watson, her Granger days are long behind her, even though Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 came out in 2011.

It's strange for me because Harry Potter seems like such a long time ago, said Watson. So much has happened over the last three or four years. But obviously it's very present in people's minds and living rooms.

She enjoyed working with Coppola on the film and especially relished having the freedom to improvise scenes with her castmates, something not allowed by strict legions of Potter fans.

I Don't Find Emma Watson Attractive

I am used to really having to stick to my lines. Because people really know them by heart, said Watson. So it was lovely to ad-lib or improvise. It was really special.

Watson prepared for the part by watching a heavy dose of reality television shows like Keeping Up With the Kardashians and The Hills. This helped get into the celeb-obsessed mind-set. And the British actress focused on capturing the voice of a Los Angeles girl.

It's interesting to see actors that you see in other films transform into characters that are so different from themselves, said Coppola. It's exciting.

Is Emma Watson Kind Or Mean?

For Watson, it is the next step in her career following last year's hit The Perks of Being a Wallflower. She said she's seeing even more opportunities for women actors in film — pointing out roles like those in Bridesmaids and Rebel Wilson's hosting of the MTV Awards as signs that the gender field is leveling.

I feel we're doing great, said Watson. There's still a way to go. I'm not pretending there's perfect equality in the industry. But we're moving in a really great direction. The “Harry Potter” star, 30, is “dormant” in her career, her agent told Daily Mail columnist Charlotte Griffiths. Griffiths’ report began trending Thursday because, in movie-speak, “dormant” supposedly means she’s given up acting.

Later Thursday, Jason Weinberg, Watson’s manager at Untitled Entertainment, insisted her acting career isn’t over. “Emma’s social media accounts are dormant but her career isn’t, ” he told Entertainment Weekly.

Nonetheless, Watson’s screen roles have been pretty “light” lately, Entertainment Weekly acknowledged. Griffiths reported that Watson has no projects for the foreseeable future, before explaining that Watson may want to spend less time on acting and more her time with her Los Angeles-based boyfriend, Leo Robinette. Griffiths also said that Robinette, who used to work for a company that specializes in legal cannabis, may have already popped the question.

Page Six said Watson’s decision to step away — or pull back a bit — from acting comes after she had a “rocky road” with her last film, Greta Gerwig’s 2019 adaption of “Little Women.”

Page Six and other outlets reported that Watson declined to join her fellow castmates — Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, Laura Dern, Timothée Chalamet and Meryl Streep — on the press tour. She only agreed to attend the movie’s premiere.

“Emma’s reps told Sony that she would only do the premiere, ” a source told Page Six at the time. “We don’t really know what happened, if she wasn’t happy with the movie or fell out with the cast.”

Cannes:

Watson’s possible unhappiness with the film could stem from disparaging rumors that circulated on social media and within Hermione Granger fan circles prior to its release.

According to Independent writer Adam Wise, the rumors basically said that Watson wasn’t very good in the movie, in which she played Meg, the oldest March sister. Some of her scenes had supposedly been cut, and test audiences disliked her American accent, the rumors also said. Moreover, there was talk that she only was in the film as a last-minute favor to Sony head Amy Pascal, after Emma Stone, Gerwig’s first choice for Meg, dropped out.

Watson had been dealing with the idea that she’s a not-very-good actor for years, as have her “Harry Potter” co-stars, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint, Wise said. That’s the “unfair” result of starting her career at age 9. “None of them were particularly good in the early entries of the franchise” and all were mostly cast for their physical similarities to the characters in J.K. Rowling’s novels, Wise added.

“It’s meant that, even as adults, all three have been unfairly labelled as bad actors — despite having demonstrated their individual range in the years since the series ended, ” wrote Wise, who thought that Watson was very good in “Little Women.”

I Tried The Viral

Wise agreed with others that Watson was “slightly wooden” in “Beauty and the Beast” in 2017, but he praised her performance in Sofia Coppola’s “The Bling Ring” in 2013. He also said she was “compelling, ” playing the love interest in “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.”

Wise furthermore noted that Watson hasn’t been entirely focused on acting in recent years. She appears passionate about her activism, which includes collaborating on the Time’s Up projects to combat workplace sexual harassment and serving as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador for women’s rights.

Of course, Watson won’t starve if the acting roles dry up. Thanks to her participation in the “Harry Potter” franchise, she’s worth an estimated $80 million. That means she can take an extended break to hang out with her boyfriend in Los Angeles.

Watson was spotted on a romantic getaway in October 2018 with Los Angeles-based tech CEO Brendan Wallace. Before that, she dated actor Chord Overstreet until they called it quits in May 2018. And before that, she dated William “Mack” Knight, a manager for a Palo Alto-based tech company until they broke up in November 2017.
