“[I’ve] spent more than half of my life pretending to be someone else, ” Watson said. “While my contemporaries were dyeing their hair and figuring out who they were, I was figuring out who Hermione was and how best to portray her. Now at 25, for the first time in my life, I feel like I have a sense of self that I’m comfortable with.”

“I don’t want there to be a big separation between the public and the private person. It’s definitely the harder road to tread but without a doubt, ultimately the most rewarding, ” she added. “It sounds like a ridiculous thing to say, but I’m very interested in truth, in finding ways to be messy and unsure and flawed and incredible and great and my fullest self, all wrapped into one.”

Taking up huge chunks of her life and experiences one year at a time. So by the time the film series wrapped, Watson found it hard to wrap her head around a life after

Was such a bubble and then having to figure out how to function in the real world has been a challenge, ” she once told The Independent.

“I know how to use a washing machine, I can cook. It’s worth it to me not to feel disconnected from everything, feeling like I’m in touch with people who do other things than acting or being in the entertainment industry, ” she added.

“I have school friends, a group of people around me, who have carried me through this whole experience and aren’t fazed if they ask, ‘Oh what are you doing tomorrow?’ and I say, ‘I’m going up to see Mario [Testino] in Notting Hill, he’s shooting me for the new Lancôme campaign.’ I don’t know – it is mad, and some days I feel a bit mad, but it’s the balance that keeps me sane. I don’t fully live it, this side of my life, ” she said.

Watson has many contemporaries in the industry around the same age with similar levels of fame. Actors like Jennifer Lawrence and Kristen Stewart know what it’s like to track an overwhelming amount of attention wherever they go. But Watson differs from her other young fellow actors since she grew up under the spotlight during childhood.

“I remember reading this thing that Elizabeth Taylor wrote, ” she said. “She had her first kiss in character. On a movie set. It really struck me. I don’t know how or why, but I had this sense that if I wasn’t really careful, that could be me: that my first kiss could be in somebody else’s clothes. Emma Watson On Stepping Away From Acting: 'i Wasn't Very Happy'

A new rumor has surfaced that Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe are skeptical to reprise their roles in the Wizarding World for Harry Potter 9 and an adaptation of The Cursed Child. Warner Bros. has been attempting to revive the Wizarding World for several years, but recent controversy surrounding JK Rowling has caused difficulties in getting key actors back for a revival.

Warner Bros. has already created three movies in its Fantastic Beasts prequel series, but with no fourth installment planned, there has been talk of a full-on reboot in the works for HBO as a seven-season show with brand-new actors taking on the magical roles. However, prior to this, there was talk of a Harry Potter 9 to adapt The Cursed Child stage play, which takes place 19 years after the story left off in The Deathly Hallows.

Insider Jeff Sneider recently spoke on The Hot Mic podcast and corroborated reports of adapting The Cursed Child for a ninth movie at Warner Bros. However, there were apparently issues in getting some of the key actors back for the revival, including Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson. Watson supposedly had been particularly skeptical about returning to her role in the Wizarding World due to recent controversy involving Rowling’s transphobic comments.

J.K. Rowling attends the Broadway Opening Day performance of ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts One and Two’ at The Lyric Theatre on April 22, 2018 in New York City.

Watson and Rowling have previously seen a public divide over their opposing transgender views. The Hermione Granger actress was asked in a 2019 Vogue interview whether she would be comfortable sharing a bathroom with a trans woman, to which she exclaimed “Of course.” This comes in stark contrast to Rowling’s own views which she shared in an essay on her own website where she seemed to oppose the notion. Due to these controversial views, Warner Bros. reportedly tried to “buy J.K. Rowling out” of the franchise but she requested an “insane amount.” This led to the realization any continuation of the series would have to involve the controversial creator, thereby forcing the reboot if key actors wouldn’t be willing to work with her.

With essential members of the original cast seemingly unlikely to return, a ninth installment in the Harry Potter adaptation may never happen. However, Warner Bros. obviously won’t want to abandon a profitable franchise just because they have to work around a controversial figure who may deter some actors and creatives. If Warner Bros. wants Harry Potter and co. back on screens, they will seemingly have no options but to produce a fresh reboot. HBO’s Harry Potter reboot has yet to be officially announced or acknowledged by Warner Bros. at this time.Emma Watson has been a movie star more than half her life at this point. , which was released over the 2019 holiday season, but actually finished shooting in 2018. That means she hasn't acted in about five years at this point, and she has no announced new projects on the horizon as an actor. Speaking to The Financial Times about the launch of Renais gin, a new spirit she's worked on with her younger brother Alex, Watson explained why it's been so long since she's taken on a new film role.

“I wasn’t very happy, if I’m being honest, ” Watson said. “I think I felt a bit caged. The thing I found really hard was that I had to go out and sell something that I really didn’t have very much control over. To stand in front of a film and have every journalist be able to say, ‘How does this align with your viewpoint?’ It was very difficult to have to be the face and the spokesperson for things where I didn’t get to be involved in the process.

That desire to be involved in the process has led Watson to other ventures beyond acting, including investments, fashion, and now, tapping into her family's longtime love of making alcohol. She's even stepped into directing, helming an ad campaign for Prada and signing on for a still-unannounced music video gig. But that doesn't mean she's done acting forever. Watson acknowledged that she will return to the screen again eventually, though she's not necessarily in a hurry to make that happen.

“Yes, absolutely, Watson said when asked if she would return to acting. But I’m happy to sit and wait for the next right thing. I love what I do. It’s finding a way to do it where I don’t have to fracture myself into different faces and people. And I just don’t want to switch into robot mode any more. Does that make sense?”
